GoS-Type 'N' dual-boiler Tram

Description

One of two types of self-propelled steam-trams which work the new Cannon Mountain arial tramway line.

This is the "N" Type, a Double-Vertical-Boiler type tram suitable for carrying up to 35 passengers and four crew. Far more substantial than the "M" type. This is one of the first arial tramway systems where the power to propell the carriage up and down the line is housed in the tram itself, and not at one of the two end-of-line stations. This is advantageous in many ways, it enables many trams to work the line simultaniously without the "counterweight problem" (where one goes up, the other one goes down) It also enables the tram crew to fix mechanical problems.
There are four crew, the engineer, the fireman, the lift-manager and the spotter. The spotter spends his time minding all other mechanical aspects of the tram, and is the one appointed to go to the "crows nest" (a small deck atop the boomtower of the tram, directly adjascent to the engine cylinders). This would be to send signals between trams, scout out ahead in case of heavy fog, or correct mechanical problems to the engine and lifting gear. Both the M and N type trams have the cylinders, valve-gear, and gear-transmissions at the TOP of the boomtower, hence the need for a mannable-platform there as well.
Different lamp codes are used for upgoing and downcoming trams, as well as trams with certain specific loads (freight operations are also used, moreso on the larger N-type trams) and conditions, hence the large number of lanterns and signal lamps. A tram-gong is supplied to ring whenever arriving in or departing from a station, and several whistles of distinct individual sounds are mounted for different audible signals from over the mountain beyond visual range.

The N type features more of a "shay engine" layout, atop the boomtower we see a three-cylinder simplex arrangement which transmits thru bevel gears, much more powerful than the double-opposed-cylinder "washington" arrangement used on the M type that got it's name from the charasmatic little climax-cog locomotives which used to run up and down Mount Washington before it's demise. the N type also features a larger crows-nest with an engine-controlling capability via a set of auxiliary throttle/reverser/brake controls.
